Hey Ilakkkiya, choosing an IIM just because it is in your home state is not right. IIM Trichy is not a bad institution, but there are better IIMs which you can go for. You don't need to worry about safety as all IIMs give top priority to the safety of students and your career growth on the longer run depends on your performance, but the initial push is from the institution which you graduate from. Moreover, moving to a different state will give you a different experience and you will move out of your comfort zone which will help a lot in your career growth.

There are nine baby IIMs (Nagpur, Amritsar, Visakhapatnam, Sambalpur, Bodhgaya, Sirmaur, Jammu, Kashipur, Trichy) they are called so because they are relatively new and are mentored by the top six old IIMs (A, B, C, L, K, I). The baby IIMs also have not missed out in imparting quality education and impressive placements, but not on par with the older IIMs. The average salary package of the top six IIMs range from 27.5 to 26 lakhs, whereas it ranges from 14 to 17.5 lakhs for the baby IIMs(*These figures are for the year 2021), this must be a clear indicator of the difference between the older and the baby IIMs. So I would advise you to give CAT another try aiming for a higher percentile to get into the top six IIMs. You can reach out to (https://www.mockat.com/) for complete guidance on cracking CAT from IIM L graduates.

X th - 95.6%
XII th - 85.2%
UG - 7.6 CGPA
Category - NC-OBC

I got 88%ile in CAT. I also did my CAP interview well and I am confident I'll convert most of the Baby IIMs. But I'm not sure if I should take up a baby IIM this year or if I should wait another year and get into the top 6 IIMS. Can someone provide me insight on this?
