[IIFT 2008]

(1) Bibek
(2) Charu
(3) Debu
(4) Eswar

Solution

Let's use letters to represent the children for convenience and short notes. Ranks assigned are 1 for the better rank and 5 for the least.

Anil - A; Bibek - B; Charu - C; Debu - D; Eswar - E.

Statement (3) and (4) can be linked together, where B > A > D > C > E. Therefore, E is the thinnest person among from all.

Answer:(4) Eswar

C. Vaibhav is older than Supriya.
D. One of the children was born in September, but it was not Vaibhav.
E. Supriya's birthday is in April.
F. The youngest child is only 2 years old.

Based on the above clues, which one of the following statements is true?
[CAT 2001]

(1) Vaibhav is the oldest, followed by Anshuman who was born in September, and the youngest is Supriya who was born in April.
(2) Anshuman is the oldest being born in June, followed by Supriya who is 4 years old, and the youngest is Vaibhav who is 2 years old.
(3) Vaibhav is the oldest being 7 years old, followed by Supriya who was born in April, and the youngest is Anshuman who was born in September.
(4) Supriya is the oldest who was born in April, followed by Vaibhav who was born in June, and Anshuman who was born in September

Solution

Let's use letters to represent the children for convenience and short notes.

Anshuman - A; Supriya - S; Vaibhav - V.

- From statement (3), V > S (Age).

- From statement (4), S = April &

- From statement (4), V = June.

Since A ≠ 4(Age) then it should be S.

Conclusive table
