IIFT 2023 - Indian Institute of Foreign Trade


IIFT is a management entrance exam conducted for admission to Indian Institute of Foreign Trade that has campuses in India located at Delhi, Kolkata and Kakinada. The National Testing Agency which conducts exams like JEE, NEET, CMAT, etc., also conducts the IIFT exam on behalf of the institute. IIFT offers a two-year MBA program in International Business as its flagship course.

IIFT has questions from Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning and General Awareness.

Under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade was established as an autonomous body in 1963 to contribute for the development and skill building in the external trade sector of India. However, it now focuses on MBA with multiple programs on campus, certifications and corporate training.


Candidates must have at least a 3 year bachelor degree with at least 5 CGPA points or above (4.5 CGPA points or above for SC/ST and PwD candidates) from a recognized university.
Candidates appearing for their final year of graduation exams can also apply and will be subjected to submission of proof.
Eligibility criteria do not impose any maximum age bar to appear for the exam.
Work Experience is not mandatory for candidates but adds additional weightage in the admission process.


The exam is conducted online since 2019, and the number of sections have been reduced from 6 to 4. The question paper consists of 110 MCQs to be solved in 120 minutes. There is no sectional time limit in the IIFT exam, but sectional cut-offs exist (including the General Awareness section).

The syllabus for IIFT is similar to CAT but it has an extra section - General Awareness. The pattern is somewhat different, with vocabulary and grammar based questions in VARC and calculation-intensive questions in QA and DILR.

Quantitative Analysis- 25 questions Quant - Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Modern Maths, Numbers (detailed topics in CAT syllabus)
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning- 30 questions (case-based and standalone) DI - Tables, Bar graph, Pie-chart, XY, Venn Diagrams
LR -Arrangement, Teams and Events, Ranking, Matching, Binary Logic, Data Sufficiency, Syllogisms, Numerical Reasoning, Coding, Puzzles
General Awareness - 20 questions Current Affairs, Economics, International News, Capitals and Currencies, Geography, Famous Personalities, Awards and Recognition, Science and Technology (including apps), Laws and Constitution, Books and Authors, etc.
