Hydrogen investments are being hyped as this will be clean fuel, and can be used in multiple sectors (including trains and ships where other renewable sources cannot be used) and at home. However, this is a big picture view and the current reality is that there are many practical challenges (it is energy-consuming and inefficient to manufacture it, its molecules are too small and may leak).
Conclusion – scientific research tends to succeed with sufficient money and political will, so hydrogen fuel should be possible (but it is not as great an investment as is being made out).
